Ring Resizing – Ring Restoration
Ring resizing might sound simple but isn’t a task that should be taken lightly. There are a few things to consider when making a ring larger. Resizing a ring can be accomplished two ways and one way is far better than the other. The easiest and least expensive way to do it, is to simply stretch the metal to the desired size. However this can lead to your ring being stretched past its limit! While this method can work if the ring only needs a very tiny size adjustment, in most cases, it will cause your ring to lose some of it’s strength and integrity. You may then face more problems and the possible loss of your ring if the metal becomes too thin.
The optimal way to size the ring is to add metal to the ring. At Diamond Jim’s our goldsmith will carefully cut the ring and then add gold sizing stock to increase the band size. Then, while using the proper solder and temperature for the torch, new gold is added and the ring is polished and buffed. After soldering it back together, there should be no evidence that the ring repair was ever done! If the solder is incorrect or the temperature too hot, the repaired area may be weak and appear to look spongy under magnification. That won’t happen with our highly skilled goldsmith!
If your ring is in need or restoration, if it’s cracked or nicked, we can restore it to it’s former glory. With a little love and attention from our goldsmith, you will be amazed to be able to wear your ring again with pride.
At Diamond Jim’s our many years of experience ensure that your ring will be treated with the utmost respect and will be repaired properly. Visit our jewelry repair page to learn more. Follow us on Instagram to see some of our merchandise.
